Another very successful CMPD operation targeting illegal gambling! On Friday, Feb. 10, the CMPD ABC Unit teamed up with the University City, North Tryon, South, and Westover Divisions, as well as NC Alcohol Law Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations. The officers and agents carried out search warrants at two fish table arcades on Old Sugar Creek Road and North Tryon Street. Officers seized more than $95,000 at the two locations and disabled more than 170 gambling machines. Two misdemeanor warrants were served and two security guards were charged with providing armed security without a license. The dangers of illegal gambling locations go beyond financial impacts. They are often magnets for violent crime. CMPD has made an effort to contact all these establishments and inform them of North Carolina’s gambling laws. Those that continue illegal operations will be targeted by enforcement. Thank you to all our partners who assisted on Friday and play a big role in making our communities safer!
