From March 10, 2023 post.
We need your help! As Charlotte Fire prepares to host our annual FREE camps for kids – Camp Hornet's Nest, the need to help local students is more significant than ever. During their 4-night, 5-day stay, campers learn skills associated with search and rescue techniques, hose-line advancement, rappelling, ladders, and much more. CAMP HORNET’S NEST welcomes boys in grades 9-12. Through this program, we provide high school boys with the opportunity to learn more about careers in firefighting. The program teaches teamwork, responsibility, and leadership. Activities in the program will demonstrate that participants must work as a team to succeed. By the end of their stay, Camp Hornet's Nest participants understand Charlotte Fire’s commitment to and pride in serving the City of Charlotte. Camp Hornet’s Nest is FREE, eliminating any financial obstacles to participate, so we ask for your support. Operating these camps takes a significant investment from our department. Contributions of any amount are welcomed and sincerely appreciated. With the hundreds of meals needed to feed our campers, we would welcome any help from restaurants and catering services. We’re helping improve the lives of more than 100 local students, many of who wouldn’t usually be able to attend a summer camp.
