Charlotte FC experienced a late defeat against Inter Miami CF in front of 47,218 fans at Bank of America Stadium on July 4, 2024. Despite dominating possession early in the match, Charlotte FC fell short as Miami secured a last-minute victory.

The home team started strong with captain Ashley Westwood back in the lineup after serving a suspension. The first significant opportunity came in the 15th minute when Jere Uronen's cross was headed back across goal by Adilson Malanda, but Miami managed to clear the danger.

Liel Abada continued his impressive form on the right wing, creating several chances. In the 21st minute, he forced Inter Miami center-back Sergii Kryvtsov into a yellow card offense. Kerwin Vargas also came close to scoring in the 25th minute but failed to convert Westwood's pass.

Patrick Agyemang had multiple opportunities to score but was denied by Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender and the post. However, despite Charlotte's pressure, it was Miami who opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Robert Taylor.

Charlotte responded quickly, with Agyemang eventually equalizing in the 41st minute after winning a physical battle with Tomas Aviles and curling the ball into the net. A lengthy VAR review upheld the goal.

Both teams had chances during stoppage time of the first half, but neither could capitalize. The second half saw both sides create opportunities without finding a breakthrough until Julian Gressel assisted Benjamin Cremaschi for Miami's winning goal in the 86th minute.

Late drama ensued as Brecht Dejaegere and Agyemang had penalty appeals waved away by referee Rubiel Vazquez. In stoppage time, Agyemang received a red card for an apparent stomp on a Miami defender. Despite one final chance from Uronen's free kick, Charlotte could not find an equalizer and suffered a rare home loss.
