Hornets sign veteran forward/center Taj Gibson

The Charlotte Hornets announced the signing of free agent forward/center Taj Gibson on July 13, 2024. The announcement was made by Jeff Peterson, President of Basketball Operations for the team. As per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gibson, a 15-year NBA veteran, has played in 965 games with 450 starts across several teams including the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Detroit Pistons. He holds career averages of 8.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 blocks in 23.5 minutes per game.

Throughout his career, Gibson has participated in nine playoff campaigns where he averaged 7.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks over 71 games with 20 starts. Last season, he appeared in 20 games with the Knicks and Pistons.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Gibson played three seasons at the University of Southern California before being selected by the Chicago Bulls as the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft.
