Charlotte Hornets President of Basketball Operations, Jeff Peterson, announced that the team has exercised its third-year options on guards Brandon Miller and Nick Smith Jr., along with the fourth-year option on center Mark Williams.
Brandon Miller, who was the second overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has played in 75 games with 69 starts. He averages 17.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Last season, he made 184 three-pointers, placing him fourth for most by a rookie in NBA history. "Miller became the 11th rookie in NBA history to average 15.0 points and 2.0 three-pointers per game," according to the announcement. Only Stephen Curry shot a higher percentage from three-point range among this group than Miller's .373 percentage.
Nick Smith Jr., drafted as the 27th overall pick in the first round of the same draft, led all rookies last season with a .432 three-point shooting percentage. Over his career so far, he has averaged 5.9 points per game over 51 appearances. He scored a personal best of 24 points against Cleveland and hit five three-pointers in one quarter against Denver last December.
Mark Williams was selected by Charlotte as the fifteenth overall pick in the first round of the previous year's draft (2022). He holds career averages of 10.1 points and seven rebounds per game over his time with Charlotte so far and had an impressive streak of making eighteen consecutive field goals early last season - setting a new record for his franchise at that time.
