The Carolina Panthers have made adjustments to their lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. On Saturday, the team announced the addition of tight end Jordan Matthews to their active roster.
This decision comes as a response to injuries within the team. Special teamer Feleipe Franks is sidelined with a concussion, and Tommy Tremble's participation is uncertain due to a back injury. This situation leaves rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders and veteran Ian Thomas as the only healthy tight ends available.
Matthews' return marks another step in his ongoing roster journey. Initially released during cuts for the 53-man roster in August, he was signed to the practice squad shortly thereafter. He briefly joined the active roster again but was released after Week 2 before returning to the practice squad.
Additionally, cornerback Caleb Farley and wide receiver Deven Thompkins have been elevated from the practice squad. This will be Farley's second elevation this season, while Thompkins will make his first appearance after previously working with this offensive staff in Tampa Bay.
The Panthers also provided updates on five players currently in their practice window who have not yet been activated to the main roster. Running back Jonathon Brooks, defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy, safety Jordan Fuller, wide receiver Adam Thielen, and outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum have all been downgraded to out for this week.
