Chuba Hubbard, a running back for the Carolina Panthers, has secured a four-year contract extension, ensuring his stay with the team through the 2028 season. This move is part of a broader effort by the Panthers to rebuild and strengthen their roster, which began with extending defensive tackle Derrick Brown.
Hubbard expressed relief and gratitude following the announcement of his new deal. "I mean, it definitely lifts a burden off me a little bit," he said. He emphasized his desire to support his family and contribute significantly to the team's success. "I want to be great. I want to be a Panther for life, and I want to change the culture here and win games."
Since being drafted in 2021 as a backup to Christian McCaffrey, Hubbard has demonstrated resilience and dedication despite facing challenges such as limited opportunities and changes in coaching staff. His commitment has been recognized by teammates like tight end Tommy Tremble, who noted Hubbard's leadership qualities developed through adversity.
"I think towards the end of last year, showing up every day in and out, regardless of how he was perceived as a player," Tremble remarked on Hubbard's growth into a key player. Brady Christensen also praised Hubbard's work ethic and influence on team culture: "Yeah, he's the ultimate culture guy."
New teammate Robert Hunt acknowledged Hubbard's dedication upon joining the Panthers from Miami. "Just dedication to the game, the dedication to wanting to be good," Hunt observed.
Hubbard remains focused despite his recent contract extension. He maintains consistency in his approach each day, according to Tremble: "No matter how good or bad he's feeling, he does not change how he acts; he does not change how he approaches each day."
The Panthers' decision to invest in Hubbard reflects their confidence in him as they aim for future success alongside players like Derrick Brown. As Hubbard puts it: "Words can't really even explain a lot of hard work... So all I can say is I'm blessed, I'm just thankful."
