The Charlotte Hornets faced a challenging game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night, marking the return of their starting five from injuries. Despite this reunion, the Hornets were defeated 121-108, highlighting ongoing issues with team chemistry and rotations.
Miles Bridges led the Hornets with 24 points, while Nick Richards contributed 19 points off the bench. LaMelo Ball returned to action after missing seven games due to a calf strain, recording 15 points and a game-high 11 assists.
For the Sixers, Tyrese Maxey scored 40 points, achieving his seventh career 40-point game. Paul George added another 33 points and surpassed Jason Terry for the tenth-most three-point field goals in NBA history.
A significant turning point occurred late in the second quarter when a brief run allowed Charlotte to reduce their deficit to five points at halftime. However, Philadelphia's strong performance in the third quarter extended their lead significantly. The Hornets attempted a comeback but failed due to several empty possessions late in the fourth quarter.
This game marked only the second time since last season that all of Charlotte's projected starters played together. Unfortunately, Brandon Miller left during the fourth quarter with an ankle sprain.
Turnovers proved costly for Charlotte once again as they matched their previous average of 20 turnovers against Philadelphia this season. The Sixers capitalized on these mistakes with effective ball pressure and fast-break opportunities.
Hornets Head Coach Charles Lee commented on his team's performance: “Maxey and George did a really good job of trying to get to their spots... we have some costly fast-break turnovers; you got to value those possessions a little bit better.”
The Hornets will next face an away game against the Washington Wizards on Thursday, December 19th.
