Colin Granger, a basketball player at Coastal Carolina, is transitioning to football, with guidance from George Fant, a former Seahawks veteran. Granger shared that during his final college basketball season, he received an Instagram message from Fant, suggesting a switch to football and aiming for the NFL. Initially dismissive, Granger later recognized the opportunity and decided to explore Fant’s proposal.

Fant, known for his background in both basketball and football, has started a program, temporarily termed "The Academy," to help players transition from college basketball to professional football. "This is a program where we're going to be helping guys who play college basketball transition to football," Fant explained. He emphasized selecting players who he believes have the potential to make a successful transition.

Granger, drawn to Fant’s advice, left basketball and traveled to Fant's home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he began training intensively. Fant provided Granger with housing, a trainer, and an agent to expedite the transition. "He's given me all the resources, all the confidence," Granger acknowledged, crediting Fant for his support and guidance.

After a brief training period, Granger held a private workout session to attract interest from NFL teams. Representatives from five teams, including the Panthers, attended. Impressed by his performance, the Panthers offered Granger a contract. He expressed amazement at the rapid progression, stating, “This has been the craziest month of my entire life. It's a blessing.”

Although Granger is enthusiastic about the future, he acknowledges the challenges ahead. Having played basketball more than football, he will need to adapt quickly. Panthers coaches have outlined areas for improvement, particularly focusing on physical techniques such as bending for his new role as a tight end.

Despite the demanding path, Granger remains optimistic and determined. "I mean, I kind of think I found my calling," Granger said. "I’m going to be an NFL tight end. I'm going to play in the NFL, and I know that."

The transition from basketball to football is complex, and Granger's journey underlines the commitment and adaptability required to succeed. Fant's mentorship and the framework of "The Academy" offer a structured path for athletes like Granger to potentially achieve their NFL dreams.
