Janelle Teal, a former United States Army Sergeant, reflects on her military experience and its impact on her life. Teal served in the 82nd Airborne Division from 2011 to 2016, where she was involved in an airborne field artillery regiment. "We worked on weapons and we jumped out of airplanes very often," she explained.
During her service, Teal became Air Assault certified, a process that involves rappelling from helicopters at significant heights. "Considering all the training that we do, it's fairly safe," she noted. Her military journey began as a means to pay off student loans while studying at the University of South Carolina. She met her husband Quinton Teal, a former Carolina Panthers safety, during their time at Coastal Carolina.
Teal's basic training success led to suggestions for Airborne school. "I took the challenge without really thinking like that I would have to jump out of airplanes," she recalled. The rigorous training gave her confidence in facing challenges like an NFL camp.
"I tell people all the time, joining the military was one of the greatest things I've ever done," Janelle stated. Her decision to leave active duty came when it was time to choose between reenlisting or starting civilian life with Quinton.
Now married with two daughters, Janelle remains active and recently participated in a race in Dallas before attending an NFL game honoring military service members. "When I was in the military, that's where I learned how important it is to be part of a team," she said.
Quinton humorously warns others about his wife's capabilities: "You don't have to worry about me... You have to worry about her."
