Two ambulatory surgical centers under Atrium Health have garnered recognition from U.S. News & World Report for the year 2025. The Carolina Center for Specialty Surgery and the Atrium Health Endoscopy Center Kenilworth have been named among the “Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers.”

Located in Charlotte, the Carolina Center for Specialty Surgery stands out for its focus on orthopedics and spine. This center emerged from a 2007 joint venture with Atrium Health and Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates and is a key facility within the SpineFirst partnership. It has the distinction of being the sole ambulatory surgical center in Charlotte that is ranked for orthopedics and spine, and it holds the No. 1 ranking in North Carolina in this category.

The collaboration between Atrium Health and Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates at the Carolina Center for Specialty Surgery ensures comprehensive spinal care, emphasizing superior patient outcomes. Here, SpineFirst’s medical professionals execute both surgical and nonsurgical interventions, utilizing modern technologies to enhance patient care.

"We are incredibly honored to be recognized as the top ambulatory surgical center for orthopedics and spine in North Carolina," stated Sarah Bender, executive director of the Carolina Center for Specialty Surgery. She attributes this achievement to "the dedication and expertise of our entire team at SpineFirst” and emphasizes the center’s commitment to high-quality patient care and innovation in outpatient surgical care.

The Atrium Health Endoscopy Center Kenilworth has also received accolades for excellency in colonoscopy and endoscopy. It holds accreditations from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and certification from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. The skilled team, including certified nurses from the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, maintains high care standards, delivering services such as colonoscopies and flexible sigmoidoscopies.

These ambulatory surgical centers, like others in Atrium Health’s network, are known for their capability to perform same-day surgical and diagnostic procedures. They provide various outpatient services without requiring overnight hospital stays, offering patients advantages like reduced wait times and costs compared to traditional hospital settings.
